Best Homemade Body Scrub Recipes
4. Homemade Body Scrub with Brown Sugar, Coconut Oil and Vanilla Extract
Recommended for all skin types and especially for very sensitive skin and acne prone skin.
What you need:
- 1 cup of brown sugar (like muscovado or demerara)
- ½ cup of coconut oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Why you need them:
Brown sugar‘s granulated particles exfoliate your skin, clearing away dry and dead skin cells. This helps create a smoother skin and lends a youthful glow. Brown sugar can also be used as an exfoliator on your face or for sensitive skin because it is softer than regular sugars. Brown sugar has anti-bacterial properties, helps to improve sun damage and offers support to aging skin. Far from clogging the skin, sugar works well to cleanse completely, so it can not only reduce any current body acne you may have, it can also help prevent further breakouts.
Coconut oil exfoliates the skin, making it smoother by removing dead skin cells, and at the same time naturally detoxifies the skin and gives it a smooth and radiant appearance. By penetrating deeply into the skin layer, coconut oil effectively moisturizes and strengthens the underlying tissue, increasing its turnover of collagen (skin’s primary structural protein), thus helping the skin renew and heal itself.
Vanilla extract has antibacterial properties, helping to cleanse skin problems such as pimples and acne. Moreover, the antioxidant properties of vanilla help fight the damage caused by free radicals. It may even help slow signs of aging.
How to make the body scrub:
Blend the brown sugar with the coconut oil, add in the vanilla extract and mix. After showering, scrub the body with this detoxifying and exfoliating scrub. Rinse well and pat dry.
