6. Use a leave in conditioner – either a store bought product or a homemade mix of natural oils like avocado oil, shea butter and olive oil.

7. Always wash out hair with the coldest possible water you can handle when using conditioner. This is the best way to increase shine. Rinsing with cold water will close and smooth the cuticle making it look shiny. You can also add apple cider vinegar to the last rinse (¼ cup of apple cider vinegar mixed with 16 ounces of water), as it works as a natural hair detangler, helps to remove product build-up and softens and smooths your hair.

8. Handle wet hair with care. Do not brush your hair while it is still wet. Do this before showering to prevent tangles.

9. Trim the ends of your hair at least once a month (or every 6 weeks if you are trying to grow it out), to promote healthy looking hair and prevent split ends.

10. Avoid chemical damage due to bleach, color or perms and prolonged to the sun’s ultra-violet A and B (UVA and UVB) rays, wind, salt and chlorine. Install a water filter on your shower head to reduce the amount of chlorine in the water.
